I started to digitalize my CD collection this week. First, of all I decided to use FLAC as format, as it allows me to convert later on to any desired format without loss of quality. To rip the albums I use the Ubuntu default Soundjuicer, with the following command "". As the music library will finally reach 1500+ Albums, I want a Mediaplayer which is capable to handle a large number of files properly. Meaning, allow an easy navigation, last.fm support, song ratings, it should be controllable and reducable by a tray icon(or the GNOME music applet), easy playlist handling and finally it should be under development, as I don't want to use "dead" software. In this report I will analyze the pro's and con's of each player, present some screenshots of each and eventually conclude which Player best suits my needs. I will compare 4 Musicplayers here, namely Rhythmbox (Ubuntu default), Banshee (aptitude install banshee), Quod Libet (aptitude install quodlibet) and Listen (aptitude install listen). Yes I know there is Exaile , but I never liked Amarok, and I am very bullheaded about such things
I have been using each player for one week, so these results are based upon REAL:) user experience.
